It is so much easier to just believe that the government has our back and that if it is for sale then it must be ok for us. Easier to believe that the medical, pharmaceutical, chemical and agricultural industries would spare no expense in the research, clinical studies, manufacturing process, packaging and delivery of products to us. After all, they say that this is important to them and they produce commercials and posters telling us this so, it must be true, right?

I know a little cynical right. well also a little true, but that is not so fun to think about because now I have to pay attention. A healthy (pun intended) dose of skepticism is required more today than ever and because of the internet it is easier than ever to get access to information. This is a passion for us to and we are determined to foster this in our children.

It is not logical to believe that a diet made up of food that comes mostly in a can, box or tube and filled with long lists of chemicals, preservatives, growth hormones, antibiotics, genetically modified organisms, even though in small amounts, wouldn’t produce an overall negative health impact through residual accumulation. Why would you believe it is not harmful? Because a government agency said so? The same government agency that made many of these chemicals immune from the regulation (grandfathered) because the chemical existed prior to new regulations and safety testing. Many of these same chemicals are exposed to us and our families every day in

the hand soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, makeup, toothpaste, moisturizer, manufactured carpet, air freshener, fabric softener. You get the idea, I can go on and on. Most people are exposed to hundreds of chemicals in just the first couple

hours of each day. Let me paint a very vivid example. Most people have been in a room that has just been carpeted. So you have smelled the heavy air of the formaldehyde and know that it lasts for days and you’re just told that it is no big deal. This process you are told is called “off-gassing”. We generally don’t give it a lot of thought because it is just easier to trust that it is ok right? Now translate that same experience into the numerous other chemicals that are released into your home environment each day, in fact one of the biggest off-gassing culprits is your laundry detergent and the clothes are then hung in your bedroom closet, where your spend 8 hours deeply breathing as you sleep and then worn by you, next to your skin all day. The off-gassing is masked by other chemicals designed to produce a pleasant smell so you don’t give it thought or just think it as all good for you. Why do you believe that? A lot of money is spent to tell you so, so you go with it. I challenge you to google many of the chemicals listed on these things in your home, especially if you have children.

There are options available but yes most people are just too busy to deal with it. I get it, we are to. What we did do though was begin to tackle this in bite-size pieces over the years. For us it was just that important. What we have found over the years has alarmed us to the point of action and several years ago we started down a path to change to actively seek a healthier lifestyle and taught our kids to do the same, along the way.

By the way, there is no perfect way to do this, life happens and there is no crime in indulging from time to time in some things you just love. The point is that you draw a line and no longer just blindly go along, actively make better choices. That is the mindset to adopt. To rescue your body’s system from a daily onslaught of chemicals that require your system to fight against.

Change this process allow your body's system to renew. I am not talking about a new workout or book, or diet, miracle pill or machine. I am talking about taking baby steps to learning about and using different products and different food choices in your daily routine. A renewal for your body’s system to function as designed and to become as strong as possible, more easily defeating the aches and pains of life and the germs you encounter daily.
